Chicken Breast Recipes

Chicken breast recipes are an excellent means to creating a tasty meal for you and your family. Not only does chicken taste delicious, if it is cooked correctly, but is has a whole host of other benefits as well. It is widely available in the supermarkets and is a lot cheaper than some other cuts of meat like lamb, which if purchase can triple the cost of making a family meal. However there is more to eating healthy than just cooking with delicious chicken breast recipes.

Chicken is an excellent source of protein and as our brain cells and muscles are mostly protein based, it is important to ensure you meet the recommended minimum daily requirements. These requirements range from 40-70 grams each day depending on your gender, age and circumstances.

Further information regarding protein requirements for children, pregnant or lactating women can be sourced from the Dietary Guidelines for Americans website at www.health.gov.

Protein consists of a range of different types of chemicals known as amino acids, a food product containing protein may have as little as 50 amino acids or as many as 10,000. However the highest level of amino acids, that is the most complete set of proteins, is found in meat based protein such as chicken breast.

It is also important not to be excessive in your consumption of protein each day, even with exercising you do not need more than the recommended daily allowance. Aim for your recommended daily amount of protein and be sure to balance your carbohydrate intake as well.

Some diets high in protein condone a low carbohydrate intake, however reducing your carbs reduces your body’s natural source of glucose production and this is your body’s favorite type of fuel. Reducing your carbohydrate intake can also reduce your intake of fibre which can lead to other health issues. My personal philosophy is it is best to not have too much or too little of any one nutrient.

Our bodies do not store protein either, so ensure you provide a protein rich meal or two on a daily basis. Another important aspect to using chicken breast recipes is, if you are able to, choose a free range or organic grade of chicken. By doing this you will be making sure that you are not buying meat that has an estrogen residue in it from the farming practices often used in conventional production of poultry.

If you find the right supermarket, free range meat is readily available and there is nothing as delicious and satisfying as enjoying a recipe made from organic or free range meat. You can be sure your family are getting the best nutritional value possible.
